Club Activities

In addition to dancing, the Country Friends Dance Club participates in many service and social activities:

Several times a year the dance club performs at various Assisted Living Centers in the Cedar Rapids area.

bullet

The Dance Club sponsors a boat in the Cardboard Boat Regatta (which has received 2nd place trophies for the past six years)

bullet

The Dance Club hosts several golf outings each year for members.

bullet

The Dance Club also sponsors canoe trips, bike rides, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's parties.

bullet

In addition, many members of the club will host barn dances, pool parties, hayrack rides and fish fry dinners.

The idea of a dance club began in February 1992 by Chuck & Diane Fitzgerald, Curt & Sandy Ludovissy, Jim & Karen Lyons,
Ron & Sandy Herran and Bonnie Sleif.  This group met at the Fitzgerald home on February 13 and 20th and invited other
potential members to join in the planning process (Steve & Marlene LeMont, Al & Madonna Walkner and Sharon & Bruce Griebel)

The first official club meeting was held on February 27, 1992 at Hofer's with 38 attendees and a dance committee served for
a 3-month period.

The first dance committee consisted of Chuck & Diane Fitzgerald, Cletis & Vergie Wehr and Steve & Marlene LeMont.

Karen Lyons suggested the name:  Country Friends Dance Club.

Linda Harrison published the first newsletter on March 1993.

bullet

The dance club moved to Fairfax Legion Hall on August 4, 1994.

The "Name Badge Board" was made by Cindy Langton.

Jerri and Nanci Knight started the dance tape library.

bullet

Tom & Anita Heaverlo started the list of dances and dance committees.

Marlene LeMont developed the club telephone tree.

Larry & Judy Blum created a list of out of town dance halls.

bullet

Jim and Janet Holmstedt donated speakers to the club.

bullet

Three successful dance workshops were held in the first 4 years.

March 30, 1996 - beginning of the Club's 5th year was celebrated by conducting a member reunion.  Reunion committee: 
Cindy & Bill Langton, Linda & Leon Jones, Don & Mary Humphrey, Steve & Marlene LeMont, Jan Caldwell, Darrell Morrison,
Tom & Anita Heaverlo, Royal & Elizabeth Norman, Ray Ward and Linda Harrison.

The dance club moved to the Moose Lodge for weekly meetings on February 6, 2003.
